''Economy of Means'' (work in progress) considers an image impoverished not through its reproduction quality, but through its simplified, malnourished symbolism. It draws connections between economic abstraction and the basic needs of live bodies. Two performers animate various breads to portray equal sign, division, percentage, and a square root. After a while they transition to dance, and finally break into a fight. Blurred against blue screen, their bodies seem like shadows mysteriously coming to life, but void of any graspable definition. Covered in blue suits, the bodies are anonymous, object-like, fused with the blue screen to the point of interchangeability. In contrast, breads float like unattainable symbols of plenty, golden bagels, loaves and baguettes move effortlessly and inexplicably, leading the viewer's hungry eye to follow on screen.
